GTA 6 File Size: How Many GB on PS5 and Xbox?

How big will GTA 6 be on your PS5 or Xbox? With the preload opening on November 12, 2026, it matters: you need enough free space before then. Here is what is official, what is only a rumor, and how much space we recommend you free up.

Quick answer: Rockstar has not announced the GTA 6 file size yet. Rumors range from 150 GB to 300 GB, but none is confirmed. To be safe, free up at least 200 GB on your console before the preload starts on November 12. We will update this page as soon as the real size is out.

GTA 6 file size: what is confirmed

	Status (October 17, 2026)
File size on PS5	Not announced
File size on Xbox Series X|S	Not announced
File size on PC	No PC version announced
Preload date	November 12, 2026 (official)
Release date	November 19, 2026
Boxed copy	Download code, no disc

The current Xbox Store listing shows a tiny size of about 328 MB, but that is only a placeholder before the real game files go live, not the size of GTA 6.

The rumors: 150 GB, 200 GB, 300 GB?

You will see a lot of numbers online. None of them comes from Rockstar, Sony or Microsoft. They are guesses based on the size of the map, past Rockstar games and leaks that have not been verified. Treat them as rumors until the official size appears on the PlayStation Store, the Xbox Store or Rockstar's support site.

What Rockstar's past games tell us

• GTA 5 Enhanced on PC asks for 105 GB of storage, according to Rockstar's requirements.
• Red Dead Redemption 2 on PC asks for 150 GB.

GTA 6 has a much bigger and denser world than GTA 5, reportedly about twice the size of the map, so a size well above 100 GB is very likely. Our estimate is somewhere between 150 and 250 GB, but that is our guess, not an official figure.

How much free space does your console have?

Consoles cannot use their whole drive: part of it is taken by the system. Approximate usable space:

Console	Drive	Usable space (about)
PS5 (original)	825 GB	667 GB
PS5 Slim / PS5 Pro	1 TB or 2 TB	850 GB to 1.8 TB
Xbox Series X	1 TB	800 GB
Xbox Series S	512 GB	360 GB

The Xbox Series S is the tightest: with a game of 200 GB, it would take more than half of the usable space on its own.

Need more space? Your options

• PS5: add an M.2 NVMe SSD (PCIe Gen4, 5,500 MB/s or faster, ideally with a heatsink) in the expansion slot. PS5 games can be stored on a USB drive but must be copied back to the internal or M.2 drive to play.
• Xbox Series X|S: use the official Storage Expansion Card to play Series X|S games from it. A USB drive can store GTA 6, but not run it.
• Free space now: move or delete games you are not playing. You can redownload them later, but it takes time and bandwidth.

Even the boxed copy needs space

At launch, the physical edition of GTA 6 contains a download code, not a disc. So whether you buy it digital or in a box, the whole game has to be downloaded and installed on your console. Preloading from November 12 lets you be ready the moment it unlocks on November 19. More details: GTA 6 Price, Editions and Pre-Order Bonuses.
