In NTE: Neverness to Everness, every character belongs to one of six Espers, the game's version of elements. Put the right Espers together and their attacks trigger Esper Cycles: reactions that slow enemies, spawn turrets, burst them down or break their guard. Here is every Esper type, every reaction, and how to build a team that triggers them all the time.
Quick answer: the six Espers are Lakshana, Cosmos, Anima, Incantation, Chaos and Psyche. They sit on a wheel, and only neighbours react: two neighbours make a Duo reaction (six in total), three in a row make a Trio reaction (Charge or Discord). For a strong team, pick two or three Espers that sit next to each other on the wheel.
The 6 Esper types
| Esper | Colour | Neighbours on the wheel |
|---|---|---|
| Lakshana | Gold | Cosmos, Psyche |
| Cosmos | Silver | Lakshana, Anima |
| Anima | Green | Cosmos, Incantation |
| Incantation | Red | Anima, Chaos |
| Chaos | Purple | Incantation, Psyche |
| Psyche | Azure | Chaos, Lakshana |
The wheel is split into two halves: a top trio (Lakshana, Cosmos, Anima) and a bottom trio (Incantation, Chaos, Psyche). Each trio has its own three-Esper reaction.
How Esper Cycles work
- Every character has an Esper Meter that fills as you fight.
- When a character's meter is full, switching to them triggers an Esper Attack in their Esper.
- If the next Esper Attack comes from a neighbouring Esper, the two combine into a Duo reaction.
- Chain three neighbours in a row from the same trio and you get a Trio reaction.
Espers that are not neighbours do not react. A team with one character of every type, a "rainbow" team, triggers almost nothing.
All Duo reactions
| Reaction | Espers | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Remora | Lakshana + Cosmos | Marks enemies and slows them, including their attack animations |
| Blossom | Cosmos + Anima | Spawns a turret that shoots enemies and deals damage in a small area |
| Hexed | Anima + Incantation | A burst based on the Anima and Incantation damage the target took in the last few seconds |
| Scorch | Incantation + Chaos | Damage over time |
| Nova | Chaos + Psyche | Burst damage after a short delay |
| Stain | Psyche + Lakshana | Makes the enemy vulnerable to Psyche and Lakshana damage |
Trio reactions
| Reaction | Espers | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Charge | Lakshana + Cosmos + Anima | When a target marked by Remora is hit by a Blossom turret, your on-field character gains a large amount of ultimate energy |
| Discord | Incantation + Chaos + Psyche | An enemy hit by both Scorch and Nova takes a large amount of Stagger damage |
Trio reactions are the strongest part of the system: Charge lets you use ultimates much more often, and Discord breaks tough enemies' guard.
How to build a team around Espers
- Stay on one side of the wheel. Two or three neighbouring Espers trigger reactions constantly. A team built around the top trio aims for Charge, the bottom trio for Discord.
- Two neighbours is already good. If you do not have the characters for a full trio, a team with just two neighbouring Espers is still far better than a mixed team.
- Avoid rainbow teams. Four or more unconnected Espers produce very few reactions.
- Parry with your slowest charger. Parrying fills the Esper Meter instantly, so let the character whose meter fills slowest take the hits and parry.
- Set up before your burst. For Hexed, for example, deal Anima and Incantation damage first, then switch to your main damage character.
- Stack the same reaction. Some characters' support passives boost a specific reaction, and passives from several characters stack. Two characters boosting Blossom make a Blossom team much stronger.
- Keep rotating. Characters off the field generally do not build meter, so switch often.
Which characters boost which reaction
These characters have support passives that boost a reaction, according to Kaiden.gg's NTE guide (version 1.x). Check each character's skills in game, since updates can change them.
| Reaction | Characters with a boosting passive |
|---|---|
| Remora | Skia, Hathor, Akane |
| Blossom | Nanally, Mint, Hotori, Jiuyuan, Iroi |
| Hexed | Linko |
| Scorch | Baicang, Sakiri, Adler, Zankou |
| Nova | Fadia, Haniel, Aurelia, Blackbird |
| Stain | Blackbird |
| Charge | Zero, Chiz, Edgar, Shinku |
| Discord | Lacrimosa, Daffodill |

FAQ
How many Esper types are there in NTE?
Six: Lakshana, Cosmos, Anima, Incantation, Chaos and Psyche.
Which Espers react together?
Only neighbours on the Esper wheel: Lakshana and Cosmos, Cosmos and Anima, Anima and Incantation, Incantation and Chaos, Chaos and Psyche, and Psyche and Lakshana.
What is the best Esper reaction in NTE?
The two Trio reactions are the strongest. Charge gives a lot of ultimate energy, and Discord deals heavy Stagger damage. Which one is best depends on the characters you have.
What is an Esper Attack?
The attack a character makes when you switch to them with a full Esper Meter. Chaining Esper Attacks from neighbouring Espers triggers reactions.
Can you use any team in NTE?
Yes, but a team without neighbouring Espers will trigger very few reactions. For the best results, use two or three Espers that sit next to each other.
