The main characters

Jason Duval

Jason grew up around grifters and crooks. He joined the Army to get away from his troubled teenage years, but ended up in the Leonida Keys doing what he knows best: working for local drug runners. Rockstar sums him up in one line: he wants an easy life, but things keep getting harder.

Meeting Lucia could be the best or the worst thing that ever happened to him.

Lucia Caminos

Lucia's father taught her to fight as soon as she could walk. Fighting for her family landed her in the Leonida Penitentiary, and in Rockstar's words, sheer luck got her out. Now she has learned her lesson: only smart moves from here. She is committed to her plan, whatever it takes, and a life with Jason could be her way out.

Lucia is the first woman to be a main playable character in a modern GTA game.

Can you play as both?

Yes. According to Game Informer's September 2026 cover story, you can control Jason and Lucia separately or together, and switch between them almost any time. Their relationship can stay friendly or turn romantic, but they cannot split up.

The supporting characters

Cal Hampton

Jason's friend and, like him, an associate of Brian's. Cal feels safest at home, listening in on Coast Guard radio with a few beers and some private browser tabs open. Rockstar's tagline for him: "What if everything on the internet was true?" He is happy at the low tide of America, while Jason has bigger plans.

Boobie Ike

A Vice City legend, and he acts like it. Boobie turned his time in the streets into a legitimate empire: real estate, a strip club and a recording studio. He is all smiles until it is time to talk business. The project he cares about most is Only Raw Records, the label he runs with Dre'Quan. Now they just need a hit.

Dre'Quan Priest

Always more hustler than gangster. Even when he was dealing on the streets, breaking into music was the goal. He has signed Real Dimez to Only Raw Records, and his days of booking acts into Boobie's strip club might be numbered as he aims for the Vice City music scene.

Real Dimez (Bae-Luxe and Roxy)

Bae-Luxe and Roxy have been friends since high school. They turned shaking down local dealers into cash through rap tracks and a relentless social media presence. An early hit with local rapper DWNPLY took them to new heights. Five years and a lot of trouble later, they are signed to Only Raw Records and hoping for a second hit.

Raul Bautista

A seasoned bank robber with confidence, charm and cunning, always looking for talent willing to take big risks for big rewards. But his recklessness raises the stakes with every job, and sooner or later his crew will have to double down or walk away.

Brian Heder

A classic drug runner from the golden age of smuggling in the Keys. He still moves product through his boat yard with his third wife, Lori, and has been around long enough to let others do his dirty work. He looks like a beach bum and moves like a great white shark. Brian lets Jason live rent-free in one of his properties, as long as he helps with local shakedowns.

More characters revealed in the trailers

Beyond the main cast, Rockstar's trailers and the 26-minute "GTA 6: An Extended Look" (streaming on Netflix since August 2026) introduced more names. These are smaller roles, and Rockstar has said less about them:

How the characters are connected

• Jason, Cal and Brian: Jason and Cal both work with Brian, the smuggler who gives Jason a place to live in the Keys.
• Jason and Lucia: the heart of the story. Rockstar says an easy job goes wrong and the two end up in a criminal conspiracy across Leonida.
• Boobie, Dre'Quan and Real Dimez: the Only Raw Records crew in Vice City.
• Raul: a bank robber recruiting a crew, which suggests heists in the story. Rockstar has not said how he meets Jason and Lucia.
• Lori and Brian: married, and running the boat yard together. In the Extended Look, they are among the people who offer Jason and Lucia jobs.
