GTA 6 takes place in Leonida, Rockstar's version of Florida, and it is much more than Vice City. Rockstar has officially named six regions, from the neon streets of Vice City to a national park on the northern border. Here is each one, what Rockstar says about it, who lives there, and what is known (and not known) about the size of the map.
Quick answer: the six official regions of GTA 6 are Vice City, Leonida Keys, Grassrivers, Port Gellhorn, Ambrosia and Mount Kalaga. Rockstar has not published a full map or an official size.
The 6 regions of Leonida at a glance
| Region | Rockstar's tagline | What it is |
|---|---|---|
| Vice City | "Everything in Excess" | The big city: beaches, nightlife, money and crime |
| Leonida Keys | "Gateway to Paradise" | A chain of tropical islands, laid-back bars and dangerous waters |
| Grassrivers | "Welcome to the Wetlands" | Mangrove wetlands full of alligators |
| Port Gellhorn | "Live Hard" | A run-down former holiday coast with cheap motels |
| Ambrosia | "Keeping Leonida Sweet" | The rural heart of the state, with a sugar refinery and a biker gang |
| Mount Kalaga | "Wild, Wild Country" | A national park on the northern border: hunting, fishing, off-road trails |
The names and taglines come from the "Only in Leonida" section of Rockstar's official GTA VI website.
Vice City
Vice City is the biggest city in Leonida and the heart of the game. Rockstar sells it as America's party capital: sun, glamour, hustle and greed. Places Rockstar has named include Ocean Beach, Little Cuba, the Tisha-Wocka flea market and VC Port, which Rockstar calls the cruise ship capital of the world.
It is the series' return to the city of GTA: Vice City (2002), rebuilt for today. Rockstar never uses the name Miami, but the inspiration is obvious.
Who you will meet there: Boobie Ike, a Vice City legend who turned his street past into real estate, a strip club and a recording studio, and Dre'Quan Priest, who runs Only Raw Records with him.
Leonida Keys
A chain of tropical islands where, in Rockstar's words, life is not flashy but it is easy. Think relaxed dress code, lively bars and waters that are not as safe as they look.
The Keys matter for the story. Rockstar's official bio says that after the Army, Jason ended up in the Keys working for local drug runners. His landlord there is Brian Heder, a drug runner from the golden age of smuggling who still moves product through his boat yard, and who lets Jason live rent-free in exchange for help with "local shakedowns". Rockstar North's Rob Nelson has also said the game starts in the Keys, at Jason's house.
Grassrivers
Mangrove wetlands, described by Rockstar as a primordial expanse. Alligators are the main attraction, but Rockstar hints they are not the most dangerous thing out there. Expect airboats, swamp roads and the kind of place where people go when they do not want to be found. It is Rockstar's take on the Everglades.
Port Gellhorn
A coastal town that used to be a popular holiday spot and has seen better days. Rockstar describes cheap motels, closed attractions and a new economy "fueled by malt liquor, painkillers, and truck stop energy drinks". It is the gritty, forgotten side of Leonida, far from the Vice City glamour.
Ambrosia
The rural heart of Leonida, where traditional values still hold. Rockstar says a sugar refinery provides the jobs, and the local biker gang provides almost everything else. Expect small towns, farmland and a lot of trouble on two wheels.
Mount Kalaga
Mount Kalaga National Park sits on Leonida's northern border. Rockstar promotes it for hunting, fishing and off-road trails, with remote backwoods communities hidden in the forest. If you want to get away from the city, this is where you go.
How big is the GTA 6 map?
Rockstar has not published an official map or an official size. Two things have been said by developers, as reported by the press:
- Rockstar's Aaron Garbut said Leonida is about twice the size of GTA 5's map, in a Game Informer cover story in September 2026.
- Rob Nelson said Vice City alone is about twice the size of Los Santos.
Fan maps and figures in square kilometers you see online are community reconstructions from trailers and leaks, not official numbers.
Characters and where they live
| Character | Who they are (Rockstar) | Where, according to the bio |
