GTA 6 Launch Trailer Is Out: Jason, Lucia and New Gameplay

Rockstar released the Grand Theft Auto VI launch trailer on October 15, 2026, five weeks before the game comes out on November 19. It is built around Jason and Lucia, mixes new gameplay with story scenes, and gives the first real look at how the two of them end up on the run together.

Watch it here, then read what it shows and what it still leaves open.

What the launch trailer shows

  • Jason and Lucia, together: the trailer centers on the couple. Lucia calls Jason from jail, and the footage points to Jason's past in the army.
  • The setup: in Rockstar's own words, an easy job goes wrong and the two end up on the dark side of Leonida, the game's take on Florida, caught in a criminal conspiracy that spans the state.
  • New gameplay and cutscenes: Push Square reports that all the footage was captured on PS5, with PlayStation branding throughout the trailer.
  • The tone: several outlets compared it to the road movie Thelma & Louise, two partners on the run.
  • The music: the trailer uses "Flower in a Hurricane" by Justice, with Tame Impala, SZA and King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard.

Breaking down the trailer: what each scene could mean

Rockstar has not explained any of these shots. Below is what each one shows, then our reading of it, based only on what Rockstar has confirmed about the story: an easy job goes wrong, and Jason and Lucia end up in a conspiracy across Leonida. Treat every "could mean" as theory, not fact.

Jason and Lucia in the red convertible

The shot at the top of this article: Lucia leans out of a red convertible while Jason drives, Vice City's towers behind them.

Could mean: this is the Thelma & Louise image many outlets picked up on, two partners on the road with nowhere to go back to. It fits the idea that the game is about the couple, not one character on their own.

Jason on the docks, next to a seaplane

Could mean: a seaplane moves people or cargo between the coast and the islands with no roads and no checkpoints. In a story about a job gone wrong, that points to runs by air or by water. It could also just be a quiet moment before things fall apart.

The boat workshop

Could mean: Rockstar has not named this character. A marina workshop is a classic front in crime stories, and with the seaplane and the boats elsewhere in the trailer, water looks like a big part of how things move in Leonida. He could be a contact or an employer for Jason. That is a guess, nothing more.

A pickup truck on the airport runway

Could mean: a car this close to a plane is not a normal trip to the airport. It looks like a job or an escape at the airport, a kind of mission GTA games have done before. Rockstar has not confirmed any airport mission.

Jason's U.S. Army shirt

Jason's shirt reads "U.S. Army Marauders Combat Training School". Image: Rockstar Games.

Could mean: this is the detail with the most behind it. VICE reports that the trailer points to Jason's past in the army, and the shirt backs that up. It would explain why he can handle weapons and stay calm when a job goes wrong. The shipping containers in the background suggest a port, which fits the boats and the seaplane.

Soldiers in the mangroves

Could mean: night-vision goggles and a team moving together look like a military or special police unit, not a street gang. There are two obvious readings: the law closing in on the couple (Lucia is already calling from jail in the trailer), or people Jason knows from his army days. Rockstar has not said which. Mangroves and swamp water match the wild parts of Leonida away from Vice City.
