What the requirements mean for your PC
Windows 11 is required
Both the minimum and recommended specs list Windows 11 64-bit. If you are still on Windows 10, the game may still start, but it is not officially supported. Plan an upgrade if you can.
12 GB of RAM minimum, 24 GB for Ultra
12 GB is an unusual number: in practice it means 16 GB (two 8 GB sticks) for most PCs. For Ultra or ray tracing at 1440p, the developers ask for 24 GB, so 32 GB is the safe choice. Read Is 16GB RAM Enough for Gaming?
The graphics card: most gaming PCs are fine
A GTX 1660 is from 2019, so most gaming PCs meet the minimum. For High settings at 1080p and 60 FPS, any RTX 2060 Super, RTX 3060, RTX 4060, RX 6600 XT or newer is enough. Ray tracing at good frame rates needs an RTX 4080 or RX 9070 XT class card.
| Your graphics card | Expected result |
|---|---|
| GTX 1050 Ti, GTX 1650, RX 570 | Below the minimum |
| GTX 1660, GTX 1660 Super, RX 5500 XT, RX 580 8GB | Low, 1080p |
| RTX 2060 Super, RTX 3060, RTX 4060, RX 6600 XT, Arc B580 | High, 1080p 60 FPS |
| RTX 3070 Ti, RTX 4070, RX 6800 XT, RX 7800 XT | Ultra, 1440p 60 FPS |
| RTX 4080, RTX 5070 Ti, RX 9070 XT | Ray tracing Ultra, 1440p |
| RTX 5080, RTX 4090, RTX 5090 | Path tracing, 4K with upscaling |
These tiers are FpsGen estimates based on the official specs. See where your card stands in our GPU Tier List 2026, or compare two cards on Compare Hardware.
Install it on an SSD
An SSD is required, with 60 GB of free space. On a hard drive, expect long loading times and stutter in big cities like Novigrad.
DLSS, FSR, XeSS and frame generation
The remaster supports DLSS, FSR and XeSS upscaling, plus frame generation. You need them for ray tracing: the 1080p ray tracing tier only reaches 30 FPS with an upscaler, and path tracing at 4K needs both upscaling and frame generation to reach 60 FPS.
- NVIDIA RTX: use DLSS.
- AMD RX 7000 and RX 9000: use FSR.
- Intel Arc: use XeSS.
Is The Witcher 3 Remastered free?
Yes, if you already own The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt: the remaster is a free upgrade for existing owners on PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S and Switch 2. It came out on September 29, 2026, and includes the Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine expansions.
On Steam, the game is rated Overwhelmingly Positive (96% of about 249,000 English reviews), and Very Positive for the last 30 days.
