STFC Prime Mining XP: What It Does, Cost and Is It Worth It?
STFC Prime Mining XP: What It Does, Cost and Is It Worth It?

If you are levelling ships in Star Trek Fleet Command, mining is one of the easiest ways to earn ship XP while you do something you already do every day. The Prime Mining XP research doubles that XP. Here is what it does, what it costs, how to unlock it, and whether it is worth it.

Quick answer: Prime Mining XP is a one-level research in the Galaxy tree. It gives +100% ship XP from mining, unlocks at R&D Department level 1, takes 1 minute to research, and costs 1,000 Flashpoint Prime Particles, which you get from the store. If you have the particles, research it right away.

What it actually does

When a ship mines a node, it earns ship XP on top of the resources. Prime Mining XP doubles that XP. It does not make you mine faster, and it does not add protected cargo: it is purely a levelling boost.

That makes it most useful when:

  • You are levelling a new ship and want it to gain XP while it sits on a node.
  • You use your survey ships a lot: they mine all day anyway, so every node now gives them twice the XP.
  • You want to level ships without fighting, for example on a busy server where hunting hostiles means getting attacked.

It is a passive, permanent bonus: once researched, it applies every time any of your ships mines.

How to unlock it

  1. Open your Research building.
  2. Go to the Galaxy tree.
  3. Find Prime Mining XP. It needs only R&D Department level 1, so it is available from the very start.
  4. Pay the 1,000 Flashpoint Prime Particles and start the research. It finishes in about a minute.

Where do Flashpoint Prime Particles come from?

According to the 1337wiki database, Flashpoint Prime Particles are sold in the in-game store. They are not a resource you mine or a daily reward. Check the store offers in your game: Scopely rotates them, and prices change.

Is Prime Mining XP worth it?

Yes, if you can get the particles cheaply or already have them. A one-minute research that permanently doubles mining ship XP is one of the best value boosts in the Galaxy tree for new and mid-level players.

If it means paying real money just for this, think about how much you mine. A player who keeps two or three ships on nodes all day gets a lot out of it. A player who mostly fights hostiles and armadas gets less, because most of their XP comes from combat.

Prime Mining XP vs Prime Syndicate XP

The two names look alike, but they boost different things:

Prime Mining XP Prime Syndicate XP
Boosts Ship XP from mining Syndicate XP from the Daily Chest
Effect +100% +100%
Tree Galaxy Galaxy
Unlocks at R&D level 1 R&D level 27

If you are trying to raise your Syndicate level, Prime Mining XP will not help: you want Prime Syndicate XP and the other Syndicate XP researches instead.

Tips to get more XP from mining

  • Keep your miners busy: a ship sitting in dock earns nothing. Send survey ships back out as soon as they return.
  • Mine where it is safe for your level: losing a ship on a node costs repair time, which means no XP and no resources. Our STFC beginner's guide explains how to avoid getting farmed.
  • Pull the miner at the right time: event and daily goal points from mining are counted when you remove the ship from the node, so do not leave a full ship sitting there.
  • Combine it with your daily routine: mining XP stacks up over days. Prime Mining XP is most valuable for players who mine every day.
