Tiles Survive! Heroes Guide: Best Heroes and Tier List
Tiles Survive! Heroes Guide: Best Heroes and Tier List

Heroes are what turn a small camp in Tiles Survive! into a settlement that can clear the map. Some of them fight, some speed up gathering, and some boost production at home. Picking the right ones early saves months of wasted upgrade materials.

This guide covers what heroes do, the two hero types, the five survivors the story introduces, and which heroes the current community tier lists rank highest, so you know where to spend your resources.

In short: use the early SR heroes (Chef, Sarge, Eva) to keep your base running, then put your upgrade materials into one strong team. In the most recent tier lists, Rosie, Layla and Tarzan sit at the top, with Freja as an S-tier pick on PocketGamer's list. Lucky is better used for gathering than for fights.

What heroes do in Tiles Survive!

Heroes are special survivors with their own skills. They go well beyond regular workers and fall into three jobs:

  • Combat: clearing tiles held by infected and fighting bosses and other players.
  • Gathering: some heroes reduce stamina use or speed up resource collection on the map.
  • Production: others raise output in buildings like the foundry.

That is why a strong account is not only a strong fighting team. A good economy hero can be worth more in your first weeks than a damage dealer you cannot afford to upgrade yet.

Hero types and rarity

Heroes come in rarity grades. The ones you will see named most often are R, SR and SSR, with SSR heroes being the strongest and the hardest to get. On the battlefield they also have a type that decides where they stand in a formation:

Type Where they fight Examples
Guardians Front line: they take the hits Ray, Rosie, Chef, Rusty
Snipers / Shooters Back line: they deal damage from range Maddie, Sarge, Lucky, Eva, Travis, Ghost

Rarity and type details come from BlueStacks' hero guide. Check a hero's card in the game before you invest, because new heroes are added with updates.

The five survivors from the story

The official Tiles Survive! website introduces five characters who lead the fight for survival. Here is who they are, with their role in battle and how the latest tier list rates them.

Sarge, Tiles Survive! hero with an axe and a cap
Sarge
SR · Sniper · Tier A
Rusty, Tiles Survive! hero in a blue shirt with a whistle
Rusty
R · Guardian · low tier
Ghost, Tiles Survive! hero in a hoodie with spray paint cans
Ghost
R · Shooter · Tier B
Lucky, Tiles Survive! hero with pink hair
Lucky
SR · Sniper · Tier B (gathering)
Maddie, Tiles Survive! hero with a crossbow
Maddie
SSR · Sniper · Tier A

Sarge is a former Army Special Forces officer who leads the survivors and builds the first fortress. In battle Sarge is a back-line damage dealer that does well against bosses and in longer fights, and the early-game passive helps stabilize your base. Rated A on PocketGamer's list, but needs a support hero to stay alive.

Rusty left a gang when the outbreak began and headed into the new world with just a gun. Rusty is an R-grade Guardian that gives general stat boosts. Useful in your first days, but most tier lists place Rusty near the bottom, so do not spend rare materials here.

Ghost is a graffiti artist who paints scarlet roses on the ruins to make the end of the world a little more beautiful. Ghost can hold the line early on, but falls behind the S and A heroes later (Tier B).

Lucky grew up in an orphanage and a circus before setting out to find a new home. Lucky's skill reduces stamina use, which makes Lucky a gatherer first: PocketGamer recommends using Lucky for resource gathering rather than combat (Tier B).

Maddie trained in archery, a skill that became vital once the outbreak hit. Maddie is an SSR Sniper with a crossbow, solid damage and a self-healing passive. Dependable and good for clearing the map early, just below the S tier (Tier A).

Tiles Survive! hero tier list (October 2026)

This table follows PocketGamer's tier list, last updated on October 18, 2026 for game version 2.6.200. Tier lists are community rankings, not official ones, and they change when FunPlus adds or rebalances heroes.

Tier Heroes Why
S Rosie, Freja, Layla, Tarzan Rosie deals high damage and heals with a passive; Freja hits hard with little support; Layla heals the team; Tarzan deals heavy damage behind a good front line
A Sarge, Ray, Maddie, Travis, Tara Strong damage (Sarge, Ray, Maddie, Travis) or defense and shields (Tara)
B Chef, Ghost, Eva, Lucky Useful early or for gathering, but not worth heavy upgrades
C All other heroes Only use them if you have nothing else

Other tier lists mostly agree on the top: Rosie, Layla and Tarzan are S tier across several of them, while Freja's ranking varies more from list to list.

Who to upgrade first

  1. Keep the base running with early SR heroes. Chef, Sarge and Eva are easy to get and their passives help with food, stamina and gathering in the first chapters.
  2. Pick one fighting team and stick to it. Spreading upgrade materials over many heroes leaves you with a weak team. Put them into the heroes you will still use later, ideally from the S and A tiers.
  3. Use Maddie to clear the map early if you have the SSR: strong damage plus self-healing makes the first chapters much smoother.
  4. Keep gatherers on gathering. Lucky and Eva are worth more on resource tiles than in your main formation.
  5. Upgrade skills in order of impact. For damage dealers, the passive and the ultimate usually come before the active skills.
